I'm a nanny and I'm 16 weeks pregnant. I've worked for a lovely family for just over a year and the parents are very happy about the baby and are definitely pleased for me. The only stickler is my appointments. I only work 3 days a week and my midwife clinic is fortunately only on a day I don't work so that's fine. When it comes to scans though, they're always on a day I do work. I live very rurally and the sonographer is only at the local hospital one day a week so I'm stuck.
So far I've had two scans. She accommodated me happily enough but seemed disorganised about sorting out childcare and so I felt guilty about messing her about. I figured I only have my 20 week scan and then I should be free. But I saw a consultant this week who has said I'm high risk with the possibility of complications later in the pregnancy. I therefore need regular growth scans and consultant appointments well after my 20 week scan.
Not sure how to broach this with my boss. Obviously she will want me and the baby to be healthy but I realised it's hugely inconvenient for her and her family. She has 4 children including twins so it's not easy to find someone who will sit with them for a couple of hours.
I know that I'm entitled by law to have the time off for these appointments but I still feel guilty. Any ideas on how to approach this and how to make it as easy as possible for everyone?
