Do you need any form of qualification to become an au pair?

No, there are no "childcare" qualification requirements - presuming you are asking about childcare.
There are VISA requirements (there are only a few countries now from which au pairs can come from under the au pair scheme), age requirements, restrictions on working hours and they must attend language college.
