Hello everyone! I've been looking on this forum for a few weeks to get advice for registering and am now brave enough to post!!!

I've just had my Ofsted registration visit and it went really well. Just have to wait for my husband's CRB check (I've already got one). Any idea how long it will take? I'm really eager to get going! Should I start to advertise now?

Thanks!

Hi, Welcome to the board.

CRB checks can take a while, typically I have found mine come through in 2 to 4 weeks, but I only have one address. The more addresses your dh has lived at over the past 5 years, the longer the check will take. You will be sent the applicant copy. Once that arrives, wait a day and then call Ofsted to chase progress on registration.

Not sure about advertising. You can I believe start to advertise, but you must not say you are a registered childminder (as you are not one until you have your certificate). You also can not take on any children until your certificate arrives. I see no harm though in starting making people aware that you will soon be registered, though at this point you can't give them a date as to when you can take their child.

Those more experienced with this advertising prior to being registered thing may well be able to give you more advice.

What part of the country are you in?

Hi vcf

Hiya, yes id def advertise now and id def ring crb/ofsted and chase them up on your dh's crb, my own took bloody ages and they messed me around sooooooooooo much, you need to get onto them!

there is a thread on here about where to advertise, but initially, go onto vistaprint.com , register then wait for you freebie offers to come in so you can get so business cards you just pay postage, then ask at local schools if they will keep some to give out and if they will put a poster in window for you...good luck

Thank you!

Nanny Nick - I'm in Surrey - your neck end of the woods, isn't it? I think I once saw your car with it's fantastic advertising at Hatchlands Park!!!

Hi VCF

I am quite new too...just wondering, is your husband in the forces, if so the CRB might take a liitle bit longer......

SHOSHAlee · 05/03/2007 21:36

madge my husband is and actually got his quicker than mine when we moved.

madge7 · 05/03/2007 21:39

Thats interesting, we are in the process of adoption so we had enhanced disclosures for both of us already, but other forces people in the neighbourhood who are CM said it took a while etc, one even involved the local MP, hehe...poor thing.

Nice to know that locals spot my car shows that form of advertising works. I'm based in West Surrey, very near Berkshire border. As you may know I am an odd-one-out here, not being a mum, but the mumsnet community seem to tolerate me - thanks all

StrawberrySnowflakes · 06/03/2007 08:15
