She's lying, isnt she...

I am currently exchanging emails, and have spoken on the phone a couple of times, to a prospective au pair.
She says that she didnt receive my last 3 emails, all of which were replies to the same email from her, and has started to say things like, she thought I didnt want her to come, and that she needs more reassurance (she is due to arrive on Saturday)

Surely this is stretching the bounds of credibility? Has anyone ever clicked Reply To, and the recipient didn't get the email?

I asked her - without insulting her - what she meant by it (it's an odd remark to make IMO) and she replied with a rather aggressive message about my accusing her of exploitation and bigotry. So now I feel more entitled to jump to conclusions.

and just to stick my oar in even more IF I was ever to have an Au Pair - I'd choose and African one over a European one too - and with that I'm off to watch TV with DH

swifterella · 14/02/2007 22:40

cor this is getting weirder

Caligula · 14/02/2007 22:48

LOL Swifterella.

I'm with you. Finding it quite wierd. Not sure if it's a good wierd or a bad wierd yet.

moondog · 14/02/2007 22:50

I love the way people refer to 'Africa' like it's a bloody country or something.

errr does it matter where the au pair comes from as long as he/she does a good job of caring for your children?
i suppose you ahve come to the conclusion taht all au pairs in the eu are shite as you have had ONE bad expeience?

smeeinit · 14/02/2007 23:21

hmmmm i cant spell!!!

eleusis · 15/02/2007 08:44

I've only read the OP. But, the nanny I have now didn't get an e-mail I sent her in the interview process. I thought she had taken another job and she thoughtI had hired someone else. So, I sent her an e-mail to ask if she could tell me why she had chosen a different job. And she replied saying she was waiting to hear from me. To this day I have no idea where that e-mail went. But, these things do happen.

eleusis · 15/02/2007 08:50

Oh, and used to know someone who had lived in Africa for a long time and had a nanny there for years. They moved back to the UK and brought the nanny with them. About a month later, they got up in the morning and was gone. Did a runner in the middle of night. Took all her stuff with her. Didn't even say good-bye. Guess she didn't like the UK.

So, I don't think the Africa plan is a sure thing either.

FairyOnTheChristmasTree · 15/02/2007 08:53

The OP sounds incredibly aggresive with her replies to Greeny. I really don't like her tone and seriously wouldn't want to work for a parent so defensive and angry with the world.

eleusis · 15/02/2007 09:01

Hey Fairyonthechristmastree, don't you think that name is tad out of season now?

FairyOnTheChristmasTree · 15/02/2007 09:45

But eleusis.....look!

Aren't you excited?!?!?!

fannyannie · 15/02/2007 11:35

"I love the way people refer to 'Africa' like it's a bloody country or something."

But in the context it was used it was the right context - EU (Europe=Continent) - Africa=Continent.........

Off topic this I'm afraid but your comment reminds me of my Aunty who used to send me letters addressed to

Africans are all the same, didn't you know? I mean, can one really tell an Egyptian, Libyan, Ugandan, Ethiopian, Moroccan, Kenyan etc apart in the same way you can someone form Britain, France, Germany, Poland, Finland etc?

eleusis · 15/02/2007 12:35

Okay, just so you know I typed Africa because I don't remember where in Africa they were from.

I am well aware of it's standing as continent and that it contains many different countries and cultures.

fannyannie · 15/02/2007 12:38

actually speedy you could probably tell in lots of cases what part of Africa someone is from just by looking at them - skin tone often varies greatly across the continent - Northern Africans are often quite 'middle eastern' looking, those from central Africa are usually quite dark and those from Southern Africa a "lighter" black

Another message to say that my emails to my boss often go astray and I don't recieve notification everytime.
It happens so often that we have had to say I will send her an email every Fri pm and if she doesn't recieve it she lets me know on a Fri eve.

speedymama · 15/02/2007 13:12

Fannyannie, I know. I was just being facetious.
