take minded children out on the school run on their own?
or do they need to be with the childminder who they work for?

I've seen a local childminder's assistant (her husband) out by himself with the children, but mainly with his wife.

Yes they can.

Our old CM had three assistants, one an adult who was with her most of the time, and then two older teenagers (training to work in childcare).

We had to sign forms for all of them, but if I remember rightly the adult assistant would have the right to almost childmind on her own for several hours, and to take the kids out on her own. The teenage girls were only allowed to have the mindees on their own in emergencies, they were essentially just another pair of hands to help out in the house when the adult assistant wasn't there.

I'd imagine it just needs to be made clear.

As far as I know A CMA can have sole care for a max of two hours.

They can have sole care for up to two hours and they must have a paediatric first aid certificate.
