BABYSITTING RATES

There doesn't seem to have been anything posted about this for a few years and I would really appreciate a steer please - my 16 year old has been offered some babysitting (young children to be precise - I don't think she's up for nappies!) but we are unsure how much she should charge. We are SW London and it's either one or two children, aged 3 - 8 so she will need to be hands on with stories, bed etc

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi, when I first started babysitting at 15/16 I was charging £6 per hour before midnight and £8 per hour after midnight. None of the families that I babysat for ever complained that it was too much, and I found that most actually paid me more (£8-£9 per hour).
When my siblings and I were babysat when we were little, my mum would pay £5 per hour and that was 15 years ago! So your daughter should at least charge £6, if not a bit more!
I'm in Buckinghamshire by the way so I'd imagine babysitting prices would be similar to those in and around London

I got £1.50 an hour but that was 25 years ago Smile

I pay nannies/nursery nurses £10 per hour and would probably pay a teenager around £7-8, maybe a bit more if very hands on. And I'd make sure there were biscuits in the house and give her the wi-fi code

Thank you NannyC123 and brokenmouse, feel a lot more confident putting forward and if needed justifying a price now!

I paid my 17 year old baby sitter £7.50 an hour so 2 hours was £15. I'm South East too.

Teenage babysitting rate round here (also SE) is £5ph but most people I know round up so it might work out nearer £5.50. For £7.50/£8ph I can get someone checked & qualified from sitters or a local childminder.
