Childminders-do you do something special for a childs last day?

That's it really. Little one leaving tomorrow and would like to make it special. Also do you buy a gift?
All ideas welcome, thanks.

What age is the child?

When DD left her first CM at 2.5 the CM didn't do anything particularly special on the day because we all felt it would actually be too confusing for her, as she was too young to really understand that she was leaving one carer and joining with another. They bought her a lovely set of books though.

Hi. She has just turned 2.
She's a sweet heart. A book sounds like a nice idea.

I buy a little something, usually with their photo on. I've had placemats printed before, the child didn't really understand anything other than they were getting a gift!! I've also made cards, and cakes. I had one child leave and move to spain so I brought them a Spanish sticker book.

I don't tell them it's their last day, I just make sure we do all their favourite things. Favourite outing, favourite activities, favourite food, etc. I try an add an appropriate gift, but again, don't make a big deal of it. With parents permission, they take home a photo collage of all their little friends.

I don't buy a gift. I may or may not make a big deal of it, depending on the child and why they are leaving. (eg school/maternity leave/moving house I would do activities relating to this). If they are quite young, I'm not sure they would get what you were going on about, they wouldn't know the significance of a last day.
I would make a card with pictures of the other children on it though so they can remember their friends at the Childminders house.
