Big argument at the dinner table

We have lots of rules

No dinner no pudding
If pudding is fruit & cream/custard/ice cream then no & cream/custard/ice cream - unless fruit is eaten (serving in separate bowls if they are faddy about it

So today child a, with major eating disorder based around not eating mixed up stuff. Offered beans & toast/cheesy toast - picked toast & beans (perfectly acceptable)

Helper wanted syrup sponge for pud so I had started to make it......got to the cupboard and there was no syrup so substituted apple sauce. (so this was syrup sponge with no syrup rather than a method to get them eating fruit iyswim)

I served up the sponge for the ones who had eaten (child a eats a little later as he is at school pt) and we decided to add ice cream as it was so hot.

A finishes & I offer the apple sponge - he asks if it is mixed up & I say a bit. So A says no thank you (very politely)

Then I ask helper to give him some ice cream as he had eaten it all up. She said no (because he wouldn't eat the apple) that's unfair isn't it - as it wasn't a fruit pudding (it was supposed to be syrup!!)

looneytune · 29/09/2006 17:35

i agree. who's in charge anyway???

Katymac · 29/09/2006 17:40

You didn't understand a word of it did you LT??

Never mind Thanks anyway - that it pretty much the way I feel

I know I am right

OP posts:
looneytune · 29/09/2006 17:44

I thought I did totally understand it and agreed you were right - maybe I misread??? (bit stressed with Ofsted so suppose was rushing)

The bit about saying who's in charge was me thinking it odd that a helper would dis-respect you like that!

goldfinger13 · 29/09/2006 17:44

Your definantly right. Who's helper is she/he???

Katymac · 29/09/2006 17:51

It was all a bit garbeld (as I said) - I thought you were just agreeing with me in a kind of solidarity way

But I understand that you understood (IYSWIM)

Thanks for your support

In the end I am the boss aren't I & I can give anyone I like pudding in actuality

So anyway she went off in a huff (2 hrs early - cos she was suddenly ill) & she better tun up on monday with a smile

goldfinger13 · 29/09/2006 17:53

you go girl. More power too you

looneytune · 29/09/2006 18:00

OMG, how childish is she??!!! I hope she didn't make this obvious in front of the children?

You were so right and even if you weren't, you're the boss!!!

Katymac · 29/09/2006 18:01

Thaty's exactly how I feel - she is so childish

I am starting to feel a bit better now

At least I know I was right

OP posts:
looneytune · 29/09/2006 18:04

TOTALLY right, reckon she just wanted to feel powerful or something - pathetic!!!

You give her hell on Monday!!!

Katymac · 29/09/2006 18:05

It would have been bad enough with a child without an eating disorder but he so rarely gets pudding as he doesn't eat a lot

Major tatrum on my part

OP posts:
dmo · 29/09/2006 18:14

get her told Katymac why does she think she can say no to you?
its your rules you can change them if you want to
ps i dont think you are changing the rules as pud was not fruit

Katymac · 29/09/2006 23:26

I knew I was right

OP posts:
Katymac · 30/09/2006 08:28

There is a small possibility that

a) I am calmed today
b) I slightly over-reacted

However

c) She is still worng
