My has just registered as a childminder but hasn't handed her notice in yet as she doesn't have any mindees yet . She's reducing her hours to see if she can get any after school children but she is struggling .

Anyway on her days off she will be minding my ds while I'm at uni . I am paying her a reduced hourly rate for this . I was going to claim saas and the inis childcare fund to help with this , but my mum has just told me I can't until she has other mindees

Does anyone have any advice on this?

What is saas?

As far as I know for tax credits purposes (so other funding schemes may be similar) your mum would need to be actively trying to find other children to mind. After a certain time period, possibly years, if no other mindees then regulator would start deregistration process.

I can't see why she couldn't claim or be paid with that money, but as cindy says if ofsted were to inspect and your mum only had her gc on her books they may start to deregister her.

Scswis.com and Scottish Childminding Association may be able to help. There may or may not be something in Scottish law, or in the various regulations/National Standards that a childminder only caring for a relative.

Your mums intention is to register as a childminder and care for several children whom are unrelated to her, plus your child who is related. She just has not found the unrelated children yet.

If she were registering for the sole purpose of caring for a grandchild, then that I see as being a problem. That does not sound the case here, so it is matter of how much time would she get to find unrelated children before being deregistered.
