What information can you ask for from an au pair (in this case an Austrian au pair)?

Hi. I don't know if anyone will know the answer to this one. In the past when we have used an agent to find us an au pair the girls we have had from the Czech Republic have needed to provide the agency a certificate proving that have no criminal record and a medical certificate from the doctor saying they are in good health.

This time we have tried to find an au pair ourselves as the agencies really seemed to add little to the process (often sending details of girls that in no way matched what we needed etc and getting shirty when we said they did not fulfill our criteria so did not want to pursue their applications). We have found a nice Austrian au pair and wondered if anyone knew if girls from Austria could provide the same certificates. I have never had an au pair from here before so do not know. I don't know, but I would think the best person to ask is the au pair. She is, after all, Austrian and likely to know the Austrian system quite well. I'm sure Austria must have both doctors and a criminal records system so it should be fine.

I'd ask for a police check, depending on age / life experience of the au pair I'd ask for a ref / testimonial from old school / form teacher and a couple of character refs / part time job refs
