Hello
I'm in the process of registering with ofsted, what happens if I find a job in the mean time andthe parents wish to claim tax credit. Can they back date it? Or will I have to wait to find a family once registered. (nanny role- only joining voluntary part of register)

I have a family who wants me to start asap.

Tax credits can not be back dated as such.

If you were already registered and the parents had not put a claim in, they can back date by 1 month. That would not be the case in your situation as you are not registered now.

Childcare vouchers can be saved up, so if you find a job where parents are already getting vouchers, they could save them. Then once you have registration certificate they could pay that months salary all in vouchers.

If of any help, WTC5 (pdf) is the guide for parents about claiming help towards childcare cost. It mentions the back dating of tax credit being limited to one month.

I am guessing that it can not be back dated past the registration date of the provider - that makes logical sense, thus why I feel back dating would not apply in your case.

My guide to registering may be helpful if you have not already completed the Ofsted online registration form. Whilst the system has changed over the past few years many of the questions are the same and the guide will help you to know how to answer them.
