Babysitting

What are the rules around babysitting? I'm talking every-now-and-then whenever someone might need you for an evening.

Is cash in hand ok? If not, what are the rules?! My thoughts are that it wouldn't have to go through payroll, as it would never earn enough to be taxed on. Any information gratefully received!

Technically, if you are earning enough to pay tax, you should also pay tax on babysitting money as it's earned income. But most babysitters are teenagers and it's their sole source of income, so wouldn't be enough to be taxable.

Up to you and your morals if you're already a tax payer but get cash in hand for babysitting.
