Maternity leave advice

Hi I'm looking for some advice about childcare whilst I'm on mat leave.

My DS goes to a fantastic childminder who I could not be happier with. He currently goes 3 days a week.

I will be going on mat leave for DC2 and am planning to still have DS go to the cm's for some of the time. At the moment i'm thinking 2 of the days. To give me time with the baby and get some jobs done (hopefully!) but I don't want to loose the third day for when I return to work.

I'm unsure what people usually do in this situation - offer a retainer for the third day? I'm open to suggestions. As I say I really think a lot of her and don't want to loose her. She also has a space for the baby when I return to work. I really don't want to offend her or put her in an awkward position.

I think you need to speak to her. She might be happy to be quiet for a few months if she is guaranteed siblings at the end of your maternity leave. Or she may need the income of having her spaces filled until then.

I'm a cm and delt with this situation last year. The family decided to leave the older child with me as normal, 4 days a week and I agreed to have a place available when the baby needed a cm. I was lucky to fill the place with another child who went to school as the baby was starting. So it worked well for us both. But until you speak to her, you won't know what she is thinking.

You're right. I'll have a chat with her and go from there. Thanks for replying
