Hello

Do you offer a discount for siblings? If so how much and off which child? Thanks

Personally I don't offer a discount for siblings as they eat/drink require the same care as singletons,(and my hourly rate is cheap anyway) however I know that some minders would offer a discount for the oldest, so that when/if the olest leaves for school etcthey are losing the lesser amount.

Katymac · 01/09/2006 22:24

Does the second child take any less care? eat less food? use less craft stuff or toys?

Why charge less?

If I did charge less I would turn away siblings so that I could have one children from each family and maximumise my income.........

Sorry - It just seems like such an odd idea to me

Hi, katymac how are you? long time no post!

shiningstar · 01/09/2006 22:28

I have always stated no discount but have been approached to do so. I feel the same as you regarding eating, my time and care etc but it seems to be the norm that discounts are offered.I am unsure whether to stick to my guns or offer this discount! Help please

Hi HP - I've been all over the place ....at least I think I have?

Katymac · 01/09/2006 22:31

Shiningstar - ask the mum which child she would like you to neglect? (sorry only joking)

Well I'd actually say that if I have 2 children from separate families when one leaves I still have an income - so actually I should charge children from the same family more so that I have a financial cushion when you leave and I loose both incomes

See what happens?

shiningstar · 01/09/2006 22:33

Thats my worry, what if they decided to leave and i have given discounts etc and lost another child in the process (will have to give notice to another child as otherwise will be over numbers)i dont want to put all my eggs in one basket and be let down but at the same time they are paying well (even with discount) and i dont want to lose them either!!

Shiningstar, I think that you should stick to your principles here unless it's losing you work, some poarents can be cheeky can't they, would they get discount for buying two pairs of shoes? I think not!

Hi Kt, I haven't been around much so keep missing peoples posts! (Sorry about the hijack SS)

Katymac · 01/09/2006 22:35

Just say that you will have to turn another child away and that you would rather not have a discount.

Would you be better waiting for a child by itself

shiningstar · 01/09/2006 22:41

Thats ok, dont mind the hijacks!!i will try and stick to my guns! I think that parents will try anything! especially trying to confuse me into agreeing stuff by talking to me about when i am working!! Dont they know how busy we are!! I will see if i get anywhere when poiting out the following, No discount for 2 pairs of shoes!the children are not SOGOC simalar to BOGOF but "send one get one cheapy"! also i will take Katymacs advice and ask which one i should ignore!!

i dont give a discount for siblings, for the same reason that katymac has given. why should i? they receive the same care.

ThePrisoner · 02/09/2006 21:54

I don't do discounts for siblings.

I did it for a family many years ago (they asked very very nicely and I felt bad that they were going to have to pay so much for a toddler and the new baby), but I ended up feeling a bit resentful that I was effectively losing money, whilst they were able to continue their foreign holidays etc.

However, if I was desperate for work and there was a lot of competition in the area, and it would make a difference between earning nothing or something, then I guess that I would consider it.
