I'm glad she turned up. I did have one mum that I gave up a sunday for interview as she had only a week to organise childcare. We signed contracts, she went home to set up online payment. It wasn't til the first day, I phoned her to see if child was ill; oh sorry I should have told you we chose someone else!!!!! She'd only signed contracts with TWO childminders!!!

I had a lady come over to see me, said all was great and would call me with the days she needed when her work sorted her days, then a childminder in our area called me for a chat and i found out she had gone with her instead, these people just think of them selves really, not the other childminders fault..

I chalked mine up to experience; ncma say you can't do anything if they haven't actually used your service. I don't know why this makes a difference legally. I wish I'd sent her a bill anyway.

Since then, I've asked for cash/cheque for first payments if there's not time to set up online/voucher payment before the first day of care. I've got 6 new mindies starting next week; i've had one month deposit off each when they booked (which I keep til contract is terminated) & I've given each introductory visits (first 2 hours free) this week to finalise everything. Its much easier when parents don't leave it til the last week to book!

so who do you speak to to organise various payment methods ie: vouchers direct payment etc?

For online or telephone payments you need to give the parent your bank account no. & sort code & they can log in to their online account to pay you or go into their bank & set up a standing order.

To set up childcare voucher payments, the parent needs to speak to their wages/personnel/human resources dept to get an info pack (either a form for you to fill in or a web address to register at). There are several voucher schemes, but the parent is tied to whichever scheme their employer has signed up with.

You can also get paid by credit or debit card via www.paypal.com or www.nochex.com.
