Oh darling, how sad. I was in a similar position but was a respite carer. I lost my job the day he died. I was fortunate to have a supportive DH and took a little time out. I was grieving just like you are. Are you still in touch with the family? You must be gentle on yourself and give yourself some time to rest. As for a change of careers...I was looking after another poorly child within 4 months as I realized I had a lot to give another child and their family. Can you get a temp/seasonal job for a while whilst looking for the 'right' family?

you will have gained lots of skills from your time working with the family, that could be put to good use elsewhere (if you are looking for work in other caring professions eg SEN, nursing etc). we have a special needs baby and finding a nanny has been very hard work. we have found a terrific one now and she is helping our family a lot. xx

I have also had a charge die of cancer soI send you my love. I would just say don't rush into any decisions, if you need to work then I agree with previous poster that you should take a temp contract for a while and give everything some thought. There are loads of careers that use a nanny's skill set from PA to kids entertainer to running a nanny agency to maternity nurse...lots of options, but I worry you are just wanting a change now because of what happened in your last job?
