Part time nanny or babysitter?

Currently seeking some extra childcare due to issues with OH work. It means he can no longer collect our DD from nursery one day a week (he drops off and I collect the other days).

As a result we've decided to try and find someone to collect one day a week, bring our DD home, look after her before getting ready for bed. Aim is one of us will be back just before she goes to sleep for last story and cuddle. 3 hrs in total.

This feels more than babysitting to me - but interested in other views. Should treat this as a part time nanny and have a proper contract, do payroll etc or is keeping it cash based and more informal ok?

We're planning on being flexible on days and happy to change them providing agreed in advance. Also planning on some holiday pay etc. basically want to ensure we are being fair and I do all of this for my cleaner so can't imagine doing less for someone looking after my child.

All very new to this so any tips or guidance anyone has to offer would be a great help.

Definitely not babysitting!

Not babysitting! Babysitting is when the kids are in bed. You are looking for a part time nanny!

Thanks I thought that was the case just a few people spoken to referred to it as babysitting.

It is part time nannying. A "babysitter" would be able to say "Sorry, can't do today, I'm going out" ie hours are under their control. I assume you wouldn't be offering this flexibility?

I'm a student and do this sort of thing for several families. My advert on childcare.com is basically for evening/daytime babysitting. I don't have any formal childcare qualifications but had younger sisters who I've looked after a lot and sports coaching experience. We keep it cash based as the hours I do vary week to week and it's normally only a few hours at a time.
