our circumstances have changed and we're looking at whether we can afford a live in nanny to care for siblings while our dc has chemotherapy. what would we expect to pay and would would they need in terms of space? not keen on aupair...given situation I want someone trained.
thanks in advance!

It will vary. I would say that around £300-£500 gross per week is a salary range. Here is an advert I found today, live-in in Richmond £330net, so that is around £406 gross, £21,200 per year, with Employers NI on top of just under £2000.

Own room, ideally with on-suite or bathroom shared with children. Some nannies will be happy sharing use of a family bathroom. Consider the practicalities of the adults in the house all getting ready in the morning, can your bathroom arrangements cope.

Consider what the nannies working hours would be. Some live in nannies can do 12 hour days, whilst others may do a lot less. So salary will vary according to the requirements and what the nanny is happy to accept.

Calculate what you can afford to pay and offer below that. Keep in mind that there are costs of Employers NI and payroll admin on top of the salary. Plus activities, travel to those activities, providing the accommodation/food/heating/lighting etc.

This recent message thread says that it is a quiet market at the moment, this could work to your advantage as nannies looking for work may accept a slightly lower salary. However they may then want it raised later.

In this thread a nanny is considering a job and says they would not consider £300 a week gross for live-in.

It will vary from nanny to nanny, so if you budget is in the right ball park then advertise the job and see what interest you get.
