Nanny contract - can you help?

i have offered a job to a nanny starting with us when we move house in August as I am going back to college.
I have to draw up a contract with her. I have been given a couple of examples, but they have no details on things like sick pay, holidays, etc.
Has anyone (I know there will be someone) drawn up a contract witha nanny and can you let me know what is in it.
Also, what do you do about holidays? We already know our holiday dates for next year, can we ask her to take hers at the same time? Dont mind if she doesnt but she's not coming with us.

Re holidays, our nanny gets 20 days plus the 3 days in between christmas and new year. The 20 days we split so she chooses 10days and we choose 10days.

wow dmo you didnt get very good holiday/sickness then. I worked in nurseries for 13 years before ds and always got a standard 20 days holday paid and all bank holidays and about 50/50 paid sickness, thos that paid sickness paid usually up to 5 days per year. Maybe i just hit the good ones

Put in the contract that she is entitled to SSP. Offer nothing more just in case you need it to fall back on. There is nothing stopping you from paying her anyway, but it gives you an out if you suspect she is taking the mick (hey, it happens).

Yes, you can require she takes her holidays when you take yours. Some nannies expect to pick two weeks, but some employers aren't in a position to offer than with their own jobs / alternative childcare arrangements. For example, what if she decides to go on hols during your exams? Will that be a problem? I choose our nanny's holidays, within reason. When she came to work for us she said her friend was getting married in Canada and she would want to return for it as she is in the wedding. So, we have accommodated this request. The only thing I really ask is that she tell me well in advance so we can plan our holidays accordingly. Say 3 months notice.

Standard on holidays is to give 4 weeks and say 2 of those weeks have to be taken during family holidays.

She also gets bank holidays off.

Sick pay - I pay the first 3 days (which isn't paid by SSP) at SSP rates (about £16/day) after that she gets the same amount but I can claim it back as SSP.

I get 20 days, I choose 10, and so do they. But because I started half way through the year, and they have 2 weeks holiday booked, I said I am happy to take mine on those days. I get SSP. You should include: Paye, groos/net per week, when they will be paid, if there is a use of a car, petrol allowance per mile, duties ie. cleaning/ironing etc., reasons for instant dismissal ie. smacking, smoking/drinking etc. how much notice to be given, and how much trial period there is, maybe in that time you both give 1 weeks notice, any nights babysitting to be included in wage, and how much extra per hour if not included, and I as a Nanny would want it stated that babysitting nights cannot be carried over to following week if not used,

As for holidays, we asked if our nanny would take off the time between Xmas and New year (as it's in dh's contract that he must take this time as holiday) - and let her choose the other days herself - however, she is lovely, and has chosen some of her days to coincide with our holiday in the summer.
