I'm looking to nanny with my own child - sickness issues

Hello,

I'm in the process of working as a nanny with my own child and I was hoping I could get advice on a question as this is all new to me. Should my own child be ill and truly not well enough to leave the house, what is the best solution for the family I am working for? has anyone had experience of a nanny with own child? should my husband stay home and look after our daughter so I can look after the family's children?

Thank you in advance!!

If that was possible, that would sound best to me as I wouldn't have to find my own short notice cover for you then.

It needs to be treated as any other job e.g. in an office. You and your DH would need to decide whose salary they could afford to lose for the day and who would be easier to replace, or arrange alternative care for your DD.

If DH gets dependents leave then use that. If you or DH gets a lot more annual leave then whomever gets the most could perhaps use that if they are able to use it at very short notice.
Otherwise look at financial impact.
Clearly for you employer it is better if your DH does all sickness cover but DH's employer would probably view it as being better if you did all sickness cover.

Treat it as any other job. The parent for whom it's easiest to be off stays off. As a nanny it's not easy to take the day off without really inconveniencing your employers (unless one of them works from home/has flexible hours etc.). If it's easier for your husband then he should cover sickness, if he's a heart surgeon or something then it'll probably be easier for you!
