ive arranged with friend's au pair (whose hours have changed) that she will look after my two kids from 8.30 til about 2.30pm one day a week? Is 25 -30 pouds too little? And what should I expect from her. eg should she be able to cook the kids lunch and take them to the park? In the morning she'll have a 1 yr old and from 11.30 a three 1 /2 yr old. What does your au pair do?

Have you asked her how much she'd like? Speaking as an ex au-pair (in France many moons ago), it is your friend and not you who is providing her with food and accomodation - so really you should pay her the going rate for looking after your kids. Do you have any idea how much this is? I guess £30 would be around the minimum wage, so it might be nice to give her a little extra....

I would say £35 but no experience so just what I might offer.

Five pounds an hour. Leave food for her to heat up or money for a pizza for all of them as a treat - make life as easy for her as you can. And yes, she should take them to the park.

£5/hour nd yes it's definately reasonable for her to make one meal in a six hour shift. However, I would accept that that one meal will probably be sandwiches, or maybe pasta at most. She could even just pack sandwiches and fruit into a bag and off they go to park/picnic for a couple of hours.

Thanks everyone. I have agreed £30 with her which she seems quite happy with. Im not going to expect her to do too much. It will just be soo nice to be able to go to the loo without a 1 yr old clinging on to my legs for a few hours a week!!!!
