Just wanted some advice - what does everyone do as far as hols go?
At the mo I have 4wks- 2wks I choose & 2wks parents choose (all paid) Problem is as mine have grown older & I've taken on more children it means I only have 2wks with no one else's children. Just think that my children would benefit from more me time & so would I.
Problem is how do I go about this!?!
I was half thinking having 2wks & wk unpaid. Don't want to upset parents too much.
Thanks

I have 4 weeks when I choose unpaid. Otherwise the two weeks they choose does not give you time off, as you will have other children.

I have 4 weeks holiday at half normal weekly fee.

My back up minder has 4 weeks holiday - half fee and she also closes one week in August and 2 weeks in December for Christmas (open for business 49 weeks per year). I think this is a really good idea as she has a toddler and a school aged child so is able to spend real quality time with them particularly when her childminding business is closed for 3 weeks.

You could have a chat with your mindees parents also to ask their opinions and work together even more regarding holidays or if you do decide to close business a particular time each year.

Hope you are able to work something out to suit your family and business!Smile

I would love my CM to close set weeks, it would make our holiday planning easier.

I may be unusual though.

Yes that's a good plan! Will speak to them.
Closing sounds great! Love my job but need time for me & my family

I have my holidays unpaid. And as a result take whatever I need. (Within reason without any guilt).

Last year I had a week at Spring Bank, a week in Summer hols a week at Oct Half term & shut for Xmas (was meant to work a few days before but I was too ill to work).

This year so far I've had 1 week in June, I'll be having 2 weeks off in August to move, a week off at Oct half term and again some time at Xmas probably work in the run upto the big day, then shut so my DS's can enjoy their toys in peace.

I also only work 2 days in the school holidays. I have picked up a lot of TTO work as I do not charge for it. I have two families who need me in the hols.

I and my boys need the break. It means a lot less money ... But there is more to life.

MaryPoppinsBag · 04/08/2013 22:43

I meant I don't charge for the holidays if I'm not needed.

goldie81 · 04/08/2013 23:10

This is what I'm starting to think- lot more to life than money!!
