Choosing a nanny!

I am going back to college this autumn after 5 years as a FT SAHM. We have looked into all the options and it looks like a nanny is going to be our best option on grounds of cost and flexibility. So I have signed up with an agency and am interviewing 3 prospective nannies over the next 2 days.

Could anyone give me any pointers as to what I should ask, what is important to find out, how I can decide. I have the feeling it will be a 'gut feeling' thing, that they either will be right or not, but I'm sitting here tonight with the agency list of questions and a notebook to decide what to ask and I am a total blank! Its bizarre employing someone to do this for me after doing it pt (shared with dh) for 18 months then ft for 5 years. It seems like a huge responsibility adn I'm really nervous!

How old are your kids? What will her duties be? What things are important to you? For example is nutrition top of the list? Or is organisation more important to you? For me, nutrition is very high up. I've learned that you really have to dig to find out if they really like to cook nutritious meals. They all want you think they cook nutritious meals. But, whe push comes to shoe, are they really going to add veg to the spaghetti sauce, or are they going to get pasta in tomato sauce from a tin (yuck!).

You are welcome to my questionaire. Cat me if you want it.

Oh, and in my opinion, agencies are a waste of time. They cost sooooo much and provide soooooo little.
