If I need safeguarding level 2 if I take on an assistant or is level 1 ok?
Also does the assistant need the safeguarding level 1?

both you and assistant need to be aware of current safeguarding requirements and have adequate training. as far as I am aware the level isn't specified and inspector was happy with the basic course me and my assistant had done.
