What do u class as a good childminder ?

just wondered how u class a gd childminder im a bit concerend about one in my town the childminder is a great person outside childminding but not sure about the childminders childminding skills most days the childminder is in other folks houses some who dnt have children themselfs and takes her wee mindee with her and also does her shopping with him with her friends I thought childminding was all about giving the child the oppertunity to be raised in a family home doing activities n becoming independant not gettin dragged from one place to the other and while mindee is In her home the child is sat in front of the tv the only time the childminder interacts wih the child on a more proffesional basis is when the inspection is due and gets graded gd x

That doesn't sound like a good childminder to me. DS1 went to a childminder who took him to lots of groups, did lots of craft activities with him, took him to the park a lot, as well as playing with him at her home. Sometimes she went to friends homes but they were also childminders, so it was a chance to socialise DS. She went to town a couple of times but always asked me first if I minded. Sounds like this childminder is no good.

yes thats what I thought I dnt think its appropiate to socialise in friends house during working hours would be different if they had children but not many do suppose as long as the mindee parents dont complain this will keep happening shame really x I use a hildminder on other hand who is fantastic always has activities for kids takes hem to toddler groups interacts at the toddler group and does loads of child based trips out .

how do you know she just sits the mindee in front of the TV? And how do you know she only interacts for her inspection? Were you there?

If this is an accurate description of what this cm does, then no, she doesn't sound very good but i, like others am intrigued to know how you know all this? Do you live with her??

if you think she is seriously neglectful, you should report her to ofsted. If you feel she is slacking and you are friendly enough to be round her house, then you should raise it with her - invite her along to toddler groups with you maybe?

also op - is the child happy? and is the parent happy with her? if so, then I don't see a problem really. everyone operates differently and some parents don't mind their children doing not much. it could be that she's not your cup of tea, which is fine, but for someone else she might be excellent, so i would be very careful with what you do, this is someones livelehood at stake, unless, as i say, you are worried about the child.

My childminder doesn't do messy play/crafts, rarely takes them anywhere aimed specifically at kids, plonks them in front of the TV and takes my kids with her whilst she runs errands. She also has friends over for a cuppa whilst she's minding. BUT my kids love her, she loves my kids, she doesn't take any nonsense from anyone and she has a great family of her own. Her house is a happy place to be. For me, that's much more important.
