I am holding a place for a new child who starts the beginning of July, but i go on Maternity leave on Friday and wondered if i should charge her for this period I am off.

You shouldn't charge a retainer fee unless you are available if requested. If the place is not available until July, you should only charge a deposit (which you either credit to the first chargeable period in July or return at the end of the entire childcare agreement)

yeh thats what i mean a deposit, she is paying me at the moment, monthly and it will go towards future care of the child.
