sorry asking you directly as know you employ cm assistants.

what sort of paperwork does ofsted provide to authorise them as assistants?

dds are likely to be left with an assistant soon and need to know what I've got to ask for.

I have co minders and assistants

The assistant have a "suitability decision" letter from OFSTED - but realistically they take up to 9 months to arrive.

They have a CRB check (paid for my OFSTED) and a CM2 form filled in and registered with OFSTED.

You should be expecting a form saying you are happy for your children to be left with XXX for up to X hrs (this would be 1 or 2 hrs normally)

I'd also be asking why it's needed (eg school run...therefore regualr or dr's appointments..one off)

Does this help or do you need more info?

thats great - its only for an hour whilst cm registers to do her nvq, just not convinced that the "assistant" is really one. it was mentioned briefly when i signed contract that very occasionally and usually a day i don't use a family member takes on role of assistant. as didn't think it would affect me, left it. now it does so want to see paperwork or I'll pull them out of cm for those hours.

As I say the letter will be long coming

You should be able to see the CRB (it is owned by the assistant so might not be on the premises)

You can ring OFSTED and ask if there are any registered assistants working with your minder (have her registation number ready)

lexiemum · 07/05/2006 18:28

ta, i'll give ofsted a call and check. I have seen a crb though as they live in same house.

My dh is an assistant and all the Ofsted inspector said I had to do was right to them INFORMING them (not requesting) that he was my assistant for their files. I have a permission form signed by parents to say they are happy.

lexiemum · 07/05/2006 22:03

oh, now I'm confused.

LT - did you get a receipt letter stating that they acknowledged change? Is there something other than a CRB you show your clients?

I can see this one being thrown at me now esp. as there seems no consistency between inspectors.

maybe I should just remove them for the day - all these questions (this and other thread) she might end up giving me notice and I can't afford that, esp. as there are no other cm's with space that service the school.

I thought that our registration certificates included information about any assistants that we had. Mine is quite specific about how many children I could have if I am working with one of them (dh and dds registered just for emergency help, not used as a permanent arrangement).

looneytune · 08/05/2006 08:03

My dh being an assistant doesn't affect my numbers, just means he can have them for up to 2 hours for emergencies. I'm only going by what my inspector said when she was inspecting me in December. She was VERY thorough about other stuff so took this as being ok. She just said I needed to write to them to INFORM them.

Should I panic and double check this again? Bloody Ofsted!!! Angry

ThePrisoner · 08/05/2006 22:23

I think that I would just make sure by having him named on your registration certificate.

Katymac · 09/05/2006 07:56

My reg cert says "or assistant" no names or anything

Isn't OFSTED unconsistant

lexiemum · 09/05/2006 21:25

well there's no "and/or assistant" on our cms reg cert - so think I'll pull them out for the morning and have a late start at work.

That makes thing kinda awkward - why not ring OFSTED (to be sure)

Mind you anyone can look after anyone elses child for up to 2 hrs without being paid (tho' they aren't insured, police checked or fist aid trained)

I wish OFSTED was consistant

ThePrisoner · 09/05/2006 23:33

lexiemum - think about what you will say if she says that she is going to charge you!

lexiemum · 10/05/2006 07:18

TP - can't open you email and it won't let me send.

Yes, I know I should make it clear why they are being pulled out and discuss not paying for this time as cm is not available - but being me probably won't assert myself and jsut say we're off to the dentist or something. Its still a month away so time for some asserion practice.

lexiemum - email stuff sounds technical, I don't do "technical". Will have to confer with a higher being (dh home tonight!)
