Do you still 'charge' for inset days/bank holidays or any other day the school is closed (except school holidays)

Thanks

Depends on contracts. I have some children school holidays, including inset days.

I do but its pointed out to parents before they sign

no

I have a term time only contract with my childminder. The term time is defined by the school calendar. Therefore, I do not pay for inset days. However, if a Bank Holiday lands in term time, I do pay for that.

Can I get some advice then? My childminder only has kids on a Monday i pay for 38 weeks per year over 52 so it's the same amount monthly, obviously most bank hols fall in term time and inset days are on a Monday so I have to pay another childminder to have the kids on an inset day so am effectively paying twice. Does this ring correct to you and if so how would I approach the subject? Thanks!

Why do you have to pay another childminder to have them on an inset day? Surely if you are paying for that day you can use his/her services?

leeloo1 · 11/12/2012 17:43

The inset days sounds odd - if you're paying for the day (and its not on a BH, which its unlikely to be?!) then why can't you use the day?

Its quite typical with CMers near me to charge usual price for BHs if they're not used and double pay if they are.

Maybe have a chat with your CM?

queencat · 11/12/2012 18:05

Because she doesn't do inset days or any days the children are not at school.

If you're not getting 38 Mondays, then why should you pay for 38 Mondays? You need to ask your CM.

queencat · 11/12/2012 21:02

What a daft mare, I should just count the Mondays. Thank you!
