i have a nine month old strting full time next week, and although we have done a little settling in he does not seem to be getting it. him mum called yesterday to say how worried they are, he is now even more clingy towards her than he was already. i am having him half days this week but he cries virtually all the time, and i have 2 other under 2's. can anybody suggest anything that may help, i really dont know what i should do. mum is beside herself wth worry.

I sometimes find this a difficult age to start with as they do get very clingy. I would perserverer this week though, (remember this week & next are short weeks!) Make sure he has a cuddly or something similar from home, perhaps an item of clothing of his mums or a pillowslip for example that smells of mum, this might well help him settle.
Do you have any older children around who the other 2 can play with? If not try & get out, even if just to walk around, I find that this often helps settle fractious children, he might even fall asleep & give you time to concentrate on the other two, praise them all the time for being patient and work with them a lot when he isn't there this week.

I had a young baby that was just like this, but he only came one day a week, which i think made it worse. After about ten weeks he calmed down a lot and soon enjoyed coming. I think at that age it is quite normal for them to be unsettled and eventually he will calm down and start enjoying himself, I would distract him as much as possible.
