At present I am not cm until Sept. I have one 2 yr old to do this check on.

Are you using your own form? or the standard form?

Any advice on how you carried yours out?

Thanks

I am not a CM so can't help (sorry)! I do however have a little boy about to turn 2 who is with a CM.

Is this 'check' compulsory and does she have to give me some sort of report? Can I opt my DS out? TBH I would do this as I have no developmental concerns about my DS and would save my CM the paperwork if I could.

Could you point me towards any information about it?

No unfortunately you can't opt out. It's part of the new legal framework, the revised EYFS and is it is compulsory by all Early years providers.

Mum2bless -are you a member of the childminding forum?

I had my ofsted inspection a few weeks ago and the inspector asked me if I was up to date on the 2 year check. She told me that although it's called the two year check that it needs to be done nearer to the child's third birthday than their second!!!!!!!!!

What happens if a parent does not want us to do it? Its more work for the cm on top of what we are already expected to do.

Its not just for those parents/cms who have concerns its something we are legally expected to do.

NickNacks I am not a member, I have seen the website before. Is it easy and straight forwards to join?

My 2 yr old is 3 in November.

Thanks for your assistance so far. Still watching this space for more help (thanks)

Very easy and very helpful! I've notice you asking a lot of question on here lately (rightly so, prepping for your inspection) and i think you would find it very helpful, about 17,000 CMs to help answer your queries! :)

Thanks NickNacks.

I am also, not cm until September and I am catching up on my paperwork.

Got only two of my own kids with me, two away camping. I know for sure this is a golden opportunity to do paperwork.

I am assuming it is similar to something I already do, which is to write an assessment on how a child is progressing against the developmental goals laid out in EYFS. Really hoping it is the same as I do and not something extra! No news from our LA yet.

I'm in a pre-school not a CM but we've asked a few local health visitors what format they want giving them a choice of a few. From that we have made up a form with 2-3 sentences outlining development in each of the 7 areas that we fill in then a space for one or more parent/carer to make a comment.

Thanks Everyone

Hi I am a childminder and didn't know there was a standard form for doing these 2 Year checks if there is a standard form does anyone know where I can find it please?
Thankyou

Runoutofideas · 29/08/2012 14:11

Hi childmindermk - I don;t think there is a standard form as such. If you send me a message with your email address I can send you the samples provided to me by Bristol City Council, in case they are any use?
