What do you think ? I have been a childminder for 4 years and he always told he would like to do it too and now I'm seriously thinking about it. We are living a very affluent area where childcare is very much in demand however we have a major problem, we are renting at the moment and I don't imagine anyone will rent us a house for a childminding business. Has anyone experience of it ?

Why can't you both CM in your current home? AFAIK you can't rent a property solely for CMing, it has to be your home (sorry if I've misunderstood)

There are a few male CMs near me, they seem to do well, would imagine it'd be the same for a team.

I think it's up to the landlord if he/ she let's you.

If you have done cming for 4 years then you know all the ropes and will have contacts.

Lots if cm teams in here and think they do well, I think it's lovely for little boys as sadly there's so few males in child care settings.

You say you live in an affluent area so you could market yourselves as a really good brand and make a feature out of being a team.

Best of luck and I would say go for it.

Our current house will be too small if we both wanted to be childminder so we'll have to move and find a new house for our family (we have 2 dcs). I know dh will be great at it, he is a natural with children. We need to come up with a business plan now !

See Mumsnet:Childminding from a Non Home with regard to using a house at which you would not be living.

That may not be what you are meaning though... maybe you mean that you need a bigger house than you currently have and landlords may not be willing to let it to you when you them the occupation.

Currently you are in a house where you are permitted to childmind... so could you not continue using that house? Then over time could you save sufficiently for a deposit and have a sufficient trading history to apply for a mortgage?
