Hoping I can get some advice- I am a complete novice at finding childcare, as my mum has looked after DD whilst I work until now. Essentially, what I need is an idiots guide to childcare.

I now have 2 DDs- one is 3yo and will be at Nursery every morning and one is 4 weeks old (will be 5-6 mo when i return to work).

I will be returning part time, and will need childcare for both girls for 2 or 3 days a week. The older one will need to be picked up from nursery.

So... what do I need? A childminder? A nanny? A nannyshare? Would a nanny be too expensive? Where can I find a childminder (apart from council list)?

Am not keen on the idea of a nursery for the baby, but would it be the best option for the 3yo? Can a nursery do school pick ups?

I may have left this a bit late, as I am returning to work when the money runs out in either October or December; is this timescale ok?

I am in East London.

Help!

Childminder for both children I suspect may be your lowest cost option and long lasting option, as childminders can often provide before and after school care.
Childminders on the council list may also be on www.ChildCare.Co.uk

Agree with Nick (I'm a CM) :)

Had forgotten about this- thanks both; a CM is the option I think I feel most comfortable with.

Is there anywhere else CMs advertise vacancies?

Netmums has a local childcare board. Childminders may also be known by your local Children's Centre. The list from the council however is your definitive list for registered childminders in your area - search your council website for contract details of their Families Information Service.
