Childminders given bad rep?

I'm sometimes a bit slow on the uptake so sorry in advance if it's pretty obvious, but I've noticed on mumsnet that it gets mentioned a lot that childminders get a bit of a hard time on here.

I've not actually mentioned it myself, ive only read posters saying they are given a bad rep here IYSWIM, but I can't really understand why

Why are they given a bad name? Surely not every cm is the same so what's the big deal?

No we are all wonderful. Well the mumsnet childminders are anyway.

Personally all the cms I know have long waiting lists and are full so a lot of '

oh my friend of a friends cm smokes 55 fags all day, puts the mindees in front of ceebeebies and hides the bruises with chocolate smears!!.' is usually crap tbh.

I've seen it a few times, I'm pretty sure I just read it on the 'this cm didn't look after her Monday's at the park' thread too about the kid running away and the spinning cup fiasco. I really thought there was a dislike of cm here - I could have got mixed up though!

Daily mail think it goes in cycles but my suspicion is jealous nursery owners trying to grab business of us cms!!!

The part thread was one fairly loony OP, probably one of those anti-WOH mothers. The rest of the thread made fun of her.

I don't know about a MN opinion of CM, it is such a large site that you can always expect differing views on just about everything.

Personally, I've had a few negative experiences with CMs lately. It is only reading threads on MN that has kept me sane, knowing that there ARE wonderful and professional CM out there, and I will find one - eventually.

I've noticed quite a few negative comments recently about cms and, initially, it made me sad to think that people would feel so anti-cms. I suppose i was taking their comments as a personal criticism. However, i've now decided that it really doesn't matter what these people think as long as all my mindees and their parents are happy with our arrangement
