Hello guys...
Im a nanny in one family for past 4 months.I never been sick since I m with them.Only once i wasnt well and had to go home 2 hours earlier. My boss didnt pay me for that 2 hours.Today Im lying in my bed with tonsil infection and I wasnt be able to go to work.Im just worried that she is not going to pay me again. We have a contract where is said about the sick pay but i think since I started there she didnt pay any tax for me as i kept asking her for payslips and still none.I gave them notice last monday as I cant stay there any more.Im just a bit worried that she is going to turn nasty on me.....What sick pay do you ussally get???after how many days off work they can put me on SSP

There are two separate issues here. What does your contract actually say about sick pay?

Second issue is the lack of payslips and your fear that the family are not paying tax on your behalf. You can call HMRC yourself and check whether any contributions have been made during the period of your employment. If the family have failed to pay, HMRC will chase them, not you so you will not be in trouble.

SSP kicks in after 4 consecutive days of sick. If you contract says statutory sick pay only then no you wont get paid for your day off sick. They are technically correct for deducting hours but in reality as an employer of a nanny I wouldnt do that as its a bit off for just 2 hours!!

Hope that helps!
