Childminders Club: Advice amount my new 6 month old mindee

My lovely little mindee started this morning and I need some advice already. She is 6 months old and I was given some bottles of milk but no water. As I was still b/f my ds at this age, he was getting the water through that and tbh, I can't actually remember when and how often he had cooled boiled water? Isn't it funny how you can forget how to look after babies! (don't worry, I'm more than capable and everything is fine ). I called the mum to ask if mindee has water at all and she said not to worry, she doesn't.

Just in case the mum asks me whether she should be at this age, I thought I'd get advise from here. I would have thought she should be offered a bit, especially as she's having 2 small meals a day?

I feel a bit silly asking this but I just can't remember plus I wasn't bottle feeding at this age so it's different.

Thanks

When my mindee was that age she used to be offered cooled boiled water with her meal and in warm/hot weather it was available all the time, sometimes if she was crying and wouldn't take her milk then I would offer the water instead (with mums say-so of course)

dd1 never took to water but dd2 likes a bit. I would say that (and I will with my 6mth) offer water at meal times once meals have been established, espcially if milk is not being taken aswell.

If she still looks worried when / if she asks you what you did then suggest she phones her health visitor.

I thought babies should be offered cooled boiled water when they had food? I look after a 5 month old who is on 3 meals a day (eek! early weaner...).

I give him water after food, sometimes before if he's just woke up. He is bottle fed and I just give him as much milk as he wants.

I b/f my dd's at this age but I'm sure hv said water as soon as they're eating.

Hth

Right, now need to just try and mention this to mum without looking like I'm trying to tell her what to do - which I'm not, just trying to help

Thanks guys

My six month old baby is having her meals with a spoonfull of milk powder and boiled water mixed in so she is getting water that way. If the mum isnt too bothered then I wouldnt be at this stage. I have the Gina Ford weaning book though if you want be to double check.
