My setting is multi cutural. I have looked after chidlren of english(white), eastern europen, black (african) and (west Indian) asian and bi-racial parentage, Jewish etc.

I ensure all children are welcome into my home.

Have you got a multi cutural setting? what are the background of the children? Are there any training available for cm with a multi cutural setting? giving awareness of food, practices etc.

I aim to work with all my parents to provide continual care for the children. I have noticed that there are differences in how I do things. Thats ok. I would love to know if there are such training which give more awareness of chidlren from different background.

any commments?

Hi MUM2BLESS
I used to look after 2 boys, actually one I still do, the other dad picks up from school now.

1st child, Dad is Muslim, Mum is Hindu this has caused one or two problems over the last couple of years mainly in what mum says he can eat, and what dad would prefer him to eat!! And what mum expectations are to what dads expectations are.
I belive they follow both religions/festivals to a certain extent but not religiously IUSWIM. Both come across as being slightly reserved, although I find dad easier to talk to than mum, Ive always felt I wasnt/wouldnt be her 1st choice in carer for her child. I may have this wrong as hes been with me 2 years now.

2nd child I seem to think mum and I had a conversation once and she said her family is from the carribean, Dad too I think? no problems there both very down to earth, lovley family

As for training, none round my way that Ive heard of, otherwise I definatley would have gone.

Thank you so much for the information.

Looked at the link you provided insancerre. (thanks) I will try to get this through my library if possible.

It is important that we have some understanding of the childrens family culture which we are dealing with.

I have experience a difference in how come parents deal with their child behaviour for example.

Any more comments would be appreciated.
