I did the nvq 3 childcare learning and development (CCLD) about 4 years ago and now a childminder friend of mine wants to do it, she says the college where i did mine no longer do this, does anyone know if its now called something else please?

Well. I have nvq 3 childcare and education, but thats since '98'. I think it's still the same.

bump6 · 21/04/2012 00:01

I did mine about 5 years ago, As most childcare related jobs advertise for nvq2/3 I would say its just the college that doesn't do it anymore.

It's a children's workforce diploma now I think

PurplePidjin · 21/04/2012 08:51

Afaik NVQ is now QCF...

FeelingOld · 21/04/2012 09:43

Been doing some research and KatyMac you are right, it is called that now. Why do they have to keep changing the name of things? x

It's not the same qualification or method of assessment, so IMO they are right to change the name, and qualification content should be regularly updated so when a drastic overhaul takes place it makes sense to rename it, bringing it in line with other sector qualifications of a similar level

PurplePidjin · 21/04/2012 15:48

In my day they were said to stand for Not Very Qualified (although mine is far more use than my degree!!)

Chuffing · 21/04/2012 22:05

I am doing my CACHE Level 3 Children and Young People's Workforce at the mo.
The name bugs me it is ridiculous!

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 22/04/2012 10:48

cache told me that CCLD is the old NNEB

The new CYPW diploma is not an equivalent (apparently)

the CYPW diploma is currently "teaching" the curent EYFS that is due to change in a couple of months (so i guess my new qualification will already be outdated by the time I get the certificate through)

Fraktal · 22/04/2012 11:01

It's of an equivalent level (potentially superior academically depending in grades) but its not a straight renaming like when CACHE was created to replace NNEB (as in the organisation) and took over delivery of qualifications and then renamed them. I think nick mentioned doing a crossover qualification which was a CACHE NNEB before it got renamed the DCE.

The content is different as its drawn from the DCE, the BTEC, the NVQ etc.

Mum2Luke · 22/04/2012 21:09

I did the NVQ Level 3 in 2006 and am glad I did although you don't get paid anymore than you wuld if you didn't have it,

I am going to do the new revised EYFS training however and the 2 year olds training thing (name ecapes me) which our Early Years is offering.

Maybe I'll get some children to mind, am not holding my breath mind Hmm

jjbingo · 04/06/2012 13:00

I've completed NVQ courses and they're really helped my career - more so than my degree (as someone else has mentioned).

I've been looking around for information on the whole renaming/restructuring of NVQs, but can't find anything. Are we saying that doing an NVQ is not worth while if in a few years the qualification won't be recognised? I was going to begin another in Sept...

Thanks.

Frakiosaurus · 04/06/2012 13:21

It happened a whole ago. What will happen from Sept is that the old NVQs etc will no longer be full and relevant, due to the structure if the EYFS so if you do want to take a further qualification then you should take one from the new CYPW suite.

The qualifications gained will still be recognised but you may need top up training.

jjbingo · 04/06/2012 14:58

Thanks Frakiosaurus. I was actually deciding which NVQ to do as I work with children, but am also a team leader and there appear to be lots of NVQ courses to choose from. However, I'll do a bit of research into which qualification I should be doing. Thanks again.

Frakiosaurus · 04/06/2012 15:08

It's only childcare which has changed. Other NVQs stayed the same pretty much, however there is a level 5 in leadership in the early years the exact name of which escapes me. And that would be the most up to date.

jjbingo · 04/06/2012 15:32

Thanks very much! x

Frakiosaurus · 04/06/2012 15:52

It's the CACHE level 5 diploma in leadership for children's and young people's services I'm thinking of. Don't know if that would be in line with what you do.
