As the title says, I'm 18 weeks pregnant and very happy. I am already starting to show so decided to tell my mindees' parents sooner rather than later. They have all said they are pleased for me. I have told them that all going well I will be starting my maternity leave in July and while I am planning on returning in October I'm not expecting anyone to 'wait' for me, for obvious reasons. I am going to help them find suitable alternative care and while I told them that if they find suitable care I would understand if they have to give me notice, I was hoping to hold onto my mindees for as long as possible (of course).

I told them on Friday last week and the family of one mindee has already given me their 4 weeks notice. This mindee is an after schoolie, I know mum really well and I also know the cm who is taking this child. I told mum that I am happy to keep the child until at least June and that I can't afford to lose this child but I'd understand if they had to go rather than lose a space at another cm, but I am really Confused as the cm they are going to works with 2 other cmers, always has spaces and has told me they will have spaces in June! So why is mum in such a hurry to move her child?

I am starting to regret telling the parents so soon as I can't afford to lose anymore and am definitely reluctant to help them find alternative care.

Does anyone have any stories of what happened when they were a pregnant cm? Did I tell them too soon? When should I start thinking about filling my spaces when I return to work?

Ahh! Don't need to be worrying now!

I lost all of my mindees in a short space of time - one due to mum going on ML herself, another started full time nursery. Fortunately, when they went I was able to start ML myself a couple of weeks later so didn't really take a hit financially. I had to give notice to my part timer as the income from them was considerably less than the Maternity Allowance I could get.

I tried advertising for children to come to me from Christmas (was only going to take a couple of weeks off when baby comes in April) but no-one had any interest in a pregnant childminder, so I thought sod it and am going to start work again in September when the 39 weeks is up. I'll advertise from around June, once the first few newborn weeks are over and done with. Luckily, interest seems to peak during the summer holidays ready for a September start anyway :)

As an aside, I'm better off on MA than I was working anyway in the end.
