Pram at CM

Hi

Hope this is in the right section! Just wondering if your CM leaves the prams out in all weather? My CM does and although at first I was a bit surprised when I thought about it did make sense, where else was it going to go?!

So it's not been an issue up to now, and only now because I need to buy a new pram and I'm swinging between getting a cheap one that will just do for the time being and buying a good quality one that would last. But now I'm thinking if a buy a cheap one the weather will get to it, but if I buy an expensive one I will probably hate knowing it's out in the rain and snow!

So I'm curious if my minder is the only one who leaves them outdoors and if yours does, what type of pram do you have for this?

Thanks.

I've got my own pushchairs etc and I certainly don't leave them out in all weathers! I wouldn't expect parents to provide one, either.

HSMM · 22/02/2012 16:21

My pushchairs are often outdoors in the day time, but usually inside somewhere at night, or if it's very cold and damp, so they don't go mouldy.

mamamaisie · 22/02/2012 16:28

I never leave them outside. Although my kitchen does get very cramped on the days when I have my own double plus two parents pushchairs in there. They drive dh crazy when he comes home from work and can hardly get in the door!

FlutterbyChildcare11 · 22/02/2012 17:06

I am a cm and I use my own prams or if a parent brings one I store it inside so it doesn't get wet or dirty I store it under the stairs or in a room where the child do not play.

south345 · 22/02/2012 17:27

I have my own that stays in my car (no room indoors) if we go for a walk from here I just put it back in car, if a parent brought their own I would ask them to take it back with them as I couldn't store it all day.

mopbucket · 22/02/2012 17:29

If parents walk to mine i store their prams inside Smile

gardenpixies32 · 22/02/2012 17:57

I don't have any indoor space for it so I would ask parents to take it away with them. I keep mine in the car.

looneytune · 22/02/2012 18:35

Mine also left in the car (with other sizes stored), when we go for a walk I get mine out of the car and also, I can't store for parents so would ask them to take back with them or risk them being left outside.

DiddleyDooDoo · 22/02/2012 20:30

Thanks everyone, so it's unusual for a CM to keep the prams outside. Maybe I will see if my CM could store it out of the weather, although I don't think she has much room, but i suppose I won't know until I ask :)

It is unusual for a CM to look after a parent's own pram or pushchair, as most of us use our own and have no space for extras.

leeloo1 · 22/02/2012 22:32

I often have up to 3 pushchairs stored for parents during the day (I suspect there may be regional variations on this issue for city/country dwelling CMers?) - and ask that parents only bring umbrella fold ones for that reason. They are a pain to manouevre round, but better than them being outside.

A CM friend of mine has one of those lockable bike shelters in her front garden which she uses to store her/parent's buggies as she lives in a flat.

It does seem a bit harsh to leave them outside - who would be responsible if one was taken? And how do you take your DC home if it rained that day and buggy is soaking wet? Confused

DiddleyDooDoo · 23/02/2012 07:25

We do put the raincover over the pram in the morning and as far as I know it has only got wet once and the CM put the pram liner etc in the dryer. The LO sleep in their prams too. Sorry! I don't mean to drip feed.

Thats ok - do the LOs sleep outside in their prams then? Is it a scecure area?

DiddleyDooDoo · 24/02/2012 20:23

No, the CM brings the pram in for their naps :)

Ah, thats ok then. Grin I was trying to imagine it - thought maybe a biiiig front garden.

Did you ask your CM if there's an alternative to them being outside? (nosy emoticon) If you explained the new pram dilemma I'm sure she'd understand.

rickyABC · 29/02/2012 15:26

I don't store parents buggies for them I have no room inside and if they were outside they would be in our play area and dangerous. My parents have to take them away.

thebody · 29/02/2012 17:30

Wouldn't store buggies, no room, enough equipment of my own! Mindees sleep in pram in garden if we all in there in nice weather or if asleep after a walk I leave outside playroom French windows which are in back garden thru 2ocked gates, it's nice to let kids get fresh air, too much indoor central heating fug IMO.
