Ofsted - Change to First Aid Training

The Ofsted Guide to Registration on the Childcare Register was updated this month.

I have been playing Spot The Difference between that document and the previous one they issued (April 2011).

I have spotted a difference in the Criteria for an appropriate first aid certificate section.

April 2011:

  1. All training should be either approved by a local authority, the HSE or QCA, or provided by a reputable body, such as the Red Cross, St John Ambulance or St Andrew Ambulance.

Dec 2011 (issued 5 Jan 2012):

  1. All training should be approved by a local authority.

So what does this mean to those of us who have done courses in the past by reputable bodies such as St John Ambulance, Red Cross? I expect it means no change, as such bodies I would have thought would be approved by a local authority. It may even mean that smaller local organisations can now run first aid courses that meet the criteria, as long as they have told the local authority about their course and the local authority approves.

Has anyone had any communication from their local authority about this change?

I have not spotted any other differences. Have you found any?

Our LEA are offering a considerable subsidy to use their ''preferred'' training provider (I think 75%) (not SJA, a ''new'' company I've never heard of, ho hum)

BALD - I can't imagine SJA or others are keen on that.
