I really need to know the going rate for childminders before I decide on nursery or a childminder.
Can anyone help give me a general idea???

It would depend on where you are. Childminders near me in the SW seem to be around £3-4ph whereas in London they can charge £70 a day, possibly more. Have a look on here and hopefully you'll find some childminders near you who advertise their hourly rates.

It really depends so much on the area. As a general rule I think childminders tend to charge similar rates to nurseries. Why don't you just call a few and ask. I get lots of calls from parents who are not yet looking for childcare but just want to know the costs involved. I am happy to tell them my rates. Smile

Thank you. I thought people might get a bit peeved with me calling round. But I will do that. Thanks again :)

why not ask your local families information service for the average rate in your area.

I've never heard of them Confused
I will look them up. Thanks.

Direct.Gov - Family Information Service lookup - may be helpful if you can't find details via your local authority website. FIS is usually run by local council or county council.
I'm in Surrey and it's provided by the county council. In Berkshire it is by each local authority. So it varies depending on area.

when I was looking for DD 2yrs ago childminders were way way more expensive than nursery and miles less flexible but from reading on here I think my area is unusual in this respect
