Childminders club: Ive had new enquiry

Hi all

As one or two of you may remember, I am/was seriously thinking of giving up childminding as I have been registered for a year and have only had one almost full-time mindee (for 3 months) and one very much part-time mindee (for a year); Just not bringing in the imcome needed to survive! Anyhow, I have just had an enquiry for an 8month old baby for very occasional childminding - well ok, that's better than nothing. This particular enquiry was made originally last week and she said she would call back - well I was so nervous at the time of first call (not had many enquiries, so not very experienced in telephone interviewing / interviews) that I made a real b--lls up of it (well so I thought) and hay ho much to my surprise, prospective mindee's mummy called back just this evening and coming tomorrow; thankfully I was more prepared to tell her more about my service !! Anyway quite excited so thought I would share this with you all

Got your dusting done yet then? Good luck! (With the chat tomorrow, not the dusting).

ssd · 07/12/2005 07:35

Good luck Tan!

Hope it goes well for you!

HellyBelly · 07/12/2005 08:47

I'm sooo pleased, good luck

I've got mine this afternoon but it's only a casual chat as she's not due for another week or so.

Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

Must be a day for interviews today for us, I also got a call last night so have one at 12pm today for a 6mth old in january ,

good luck to you both and fingers crossed.

HellyBelly · 08/12/2005 09:25

How did you get on Tan???? Was thinking about you yesterday!!

About about you puppy?

Tan1959 · 08/12/2005 21:53

Hi Hellbelly: I too was thinking of you yesterday, wondering how you too got on with your prospective mum-to-be?

Unfortunately, the lady I was due to see yesterday needed me for today and I just could not do the hours she required but she said she would come and see me next week so I am confident she will - I also had a call yesterday from a lady who had telephoned me months ago and had to be honest with her about school pick-ups and whether I could keep a place open until January so asked her to call me nearer the time - well she has and we keeping missing each others calls so have arrange to call her tomorrow evening - I am kaeeping fingers and toes crossed for something very soon!

The Prisoner: True to form in these situations - cobwebs removed!!

Thanks SSD

Puppy - how did you get on?

Shame about the hours but I'm sure she'll call you back. Make sure you make that call tonight for the other lady!!

My pg lady was here 2 hours and we got on really well. She was just popping for chat with no questions at this stage but when she left, she said she was really happy with the info I gave and the answers to questions she hadn't asked, just to give her some idea's.

She said it's more important to her that the person she chooses is like her and we get on rather than paperwork, policies etc. Considering we chatted for so long, I think it went quite well.

Had another call that night from a friend who wants to remove her child from nursery (staff keep changing and it's unsettling for her dd) and wanted to know if I could help. As it was just for one day a week, I turned it down just in case the pg lady wants me. Pg lady wants to come again with dp once the baby is born but obviously if something else comes up then I may have to push her for a decision and I just don't think she's ready to commit yet?

I just hope that this one from Wednesday works out as I really liked her and the hours and everything would be perfect.

Oh well, guess this deciding what jobs to take/turn down is all part of the job but I don't like it - worries me that I'll make the wrong decision!!!

Anyway Tan, went on a bit there didn't I . I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed tonight for that call you are making!! Let us know how you get on!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you can sort something with this family who your ringing Tan, Its a shame when you can't do the hours that people need you for,.

A similar problem with the family who came to see me, they want me three days a week for a 4mth old, I already look after a 9mth old full time on a Wed and Thurs, so they came to see me turns out shes wanting thursday but said she has other c'minders to see and will get back to me if she can't find one and work allow her to change her days of work iykwim, tbh I didn't click with this family, just felt really uncomfortable for some reason, not sure whether to turn them down if they ring but its work isn't it, maybe I could arrange another meeting nearer the time and see how I feel then it won't be till next year anyway when their DS is 6mth
I have another interview on tues evening for a 4 year old.

Hellybelly, glad you got on really well with yr pg lady that sounds
promising, again i will keep my fingers crossed.

Both of you keep us posted how you get on.

Tan1959 · 12/12/2005 22:57

Hellybelly: sounds like you made a really great impression on your pg lady well of course! I really hope it works out for you with this lady and by the sounds of things it will .

Spoke with lady that I was trying to get hold of and this is a definate maybe - we were on the phone for 1 and half hours - my only problem is picking her dd up from nursery, not sure it fair on current mindees as we would only be home for an hour then have to go out again and its not just around the corner either! It is a real dilemma because the placement is for about 3 days per week but I have to also think about the effect on my current mindees even though I desperately need more work. I invited her to come and see me anyway soon.

thanks puppyisnotjustforxmas - did you hear back from the family you saw? I know it is awful if you just don't click with a particular family - but I know what you mean about it being work. Good luck with your interview tomorrow evening

Difficult Tan - hope you manage to work something out that everyone is happy with.

I did feel it went very well with the pg lady but I'm not sure she wants to commit at this stage as there may be changes at her work and sometimes, people change their minds about working once they've had the baby??? I'll just have to see!

If I get worried and want an excuse to contact her, I may just email her letting her know I've just had my inspection and see if she would like to know my grade. This way I won't feel I'm putting pressure on! I really liked her so fingers crossed! Some parents you just click with don't you!

Let us know what you decide Tan!

Tan1959, fingers crossed that you work something out

Thanks for asking but I never heard anything from the first family I saw I am now going to turn them away if they ring as the second family I saw have put a deposit down for me to start in January
It has worked out really well for me as its for school pick ups from the school I already do a pick up from and for a few hours a day term time only, So I still have every morning off and we can still get away in our caravan for long weekends in finer weather

Hellybelly I hope you get a booking from your lady soon, I had a lady who came to see me and took a month to think things over and to check other childminders out and then came back to me to look after her DS,which I did for 8mth till they moved away.
