It was in the diary as possible jobs for me when youngest is at nursery (so childless morning after school run).

I texted her very politely and said as I'd never cleaned an oven in my life it wasn't my sort of thing, but I could recommend an oven cleaning service! I honestly haven't, DH does at home.

I also feel it's not quite in my remit! Was I fair?

It's great, they take your oven apart and put the pieces in a special chemical vat on their van which gets rid of every scrap of grease and baked on dirt. The then treat the remaining bits of the oven, hob, cooker hood and so on with the same chemical until they are pristine. They change the filter in the hood and the bulb in the oven if it needs it. The oven works a lot more efficiently afterwards. A great service.

my oven is in such a bad state and meant to be self cleaning that i may just buy a new kitchen instead and replace the oven that way Grin

Oven cleaning chemicals are pretty nasty so I would be Hmm at someone being asked to do that without specific COSHH training and PPE... I think you'd be well within your rights to decline because you didn't feel comfortable using chemicals. I'm expected to clean the oven at work (residential care) but I've also had coshh training, read the policy, know where the gloves are, been provided a uniform blah blah blah Smile

I had mine done last week for £50, to include oven, grill and grill pans. Last time it also included hob and extractor and that was £80 I think

2/2.30 hours and worth every penny!

I agree new kitchen rather than clean oven Grin I think that it is very cheeky to ask a nanny to clean your oven.
