we sometimes use a nursery nurse from DD's nursery for babysitting. she asks for £5-6 an hour (we usually round to nearest £10). this week one night DH has an interview miles away and I have to work late. nursery nurse is going to use our car seat in her car to bring DD home, give her some tea, play together watch cbeebies and then possibly bath and bed unless DH is home in time for the bath/bed bit.

Clearly this deserves a higher rate. What would be right £8/hr? £10/hr? more?

£8 sounds reasonable given how much she asks for babysitting. Round up to nearest sensible amount. If DH gets home early and it's only been say 1.5 hours then give £20 as a sort of minimum payment.
