Hi girls, just had something extraordinary happen to me today.

Was discussing with a new mum c/minding her little 'un and we came to discussing pay. She asked me what I charge per hour - I said "£2.75". She then said "well I pay my cleaner more than that, she gets £5 an hour and I certaimly wouldn't pay you less to look after my baby than I pay to have a clean home, so I'll pay £5 an hour too!!

Can you believe it, someone who doesn't grudge paying what your worth!! And someone who recognizes that paying a cleaner DOUBLE what they pay a childminder is a disgrace.

Fantastic! Good on her. She's a keeper!

Wow, that is fantastic.

Just imagine someone considering that the care of her child is worth as much as the cleaning of her house.

That is so lovely - it makes the job worthwhile.

I really resent being so undervalued by my parents.

Although I do understand that it would be difficult for them to pay significantly more than they already do. (as they are paid relatively little) Even with CTC and the help the gov gives they could afford little more.

The whole system needs an overhaul

Childcare in this country is under funded (by Gov) and providers unappreciated.

ssd, thats excellent!!

Hear, hear Katymac,
Couldn't agree more with your post although one of my mums keeps asking when I'm putting my fees up!

jellyjelly · 25/10/2005 07:49

How often do you think it should be done and by how much 10 per hour?

jellyjelly · 25/10/2005 07:49

Forgot to say well done very pleased for you.

Bozza · 25/10/2005 09:39

I would say that fees should go up annually. They do at the nursery used by my kids. Not sure what DS's childminder does yet. Most people get a pay rise annually. I don't. But DH does.

TrulyScrumptious · 25/10/2005 10:45

Wow - never heard of anyone offering to pay more before - what a nice lady!

ssd · 25/10/2005 11:22

Yes, I was amazed myself!!

Couldn't agree more with Katys post.
