Im thinking of getting a rabbit or guinea pig for DDs birthday.

Does anyone have anything similiar? How do they go down with the mindees?

Cat - adores mindees
Rabbit - ignored mindees or ran away (not a typical rabbit, he may have been traumatised as a baby)
Guinea Pigs - grudging accept being cuddled
Chickens - mindees love collecting eggs
Fish - best of all they sit watching them and becoeme really calm

Would love to have chickens. In the future i may. How long do they live supposing you dont get hungry at the weekend!

With Bird flu on it's way....we may have to visit the vets

I think 3-5 yrs (but I don't know why)

We have cats, but have had rabbits and guinea-pigs in the past. Our pets have always been a firm favourite with mindees, but I am very careful that children are always very closely supervised. The cats are fairly self-sufficient and seem to know which children they can trust! The children were not allowed to get rabbits or guinea-pigs out by themselves ever. Many of the mindees don't have their own pets, and needed to be shown how to care for mine. (And them some of them were just downright mean and couldn't be trusted, full stop!!)

Have just been told that it might not be such a good idea to go and feed the ducks.

ThePrisoner · 17/10/2005 19:38

bigdonna · 17/10/2005 20:19

we have just got a hamster, all the kids love him.

kcemum · 17/10/2005 21:09

We've got a cat, fish - mindees love to watch them and a zillion garden birds.

ThePrisoner · 17/10/2005 23:04

I still want to know who said you can't feed the ducks!

HellyBelly · 18/10/2005 13:53

I have a cat and was worried that parents would be put off (even though he's never around the kids as he gets scared) but ALL the mindees love him! They try and try to make him come in and I have to explain that he's scared and it would be cruel to make him come in.

Certainly hasn't been a problem (although the inspector did say I should only feed him when the mindees aren't here and not to have food in the house for him.

JELLY - WHAT'S THIS ABOUT THE DUCKS THEN???
