sorry top sound abit slack lol but in your working out what does personall allowance mean when you have deducted a amount from the total? i only started childminding begining of april last year so only had one day tax return today, but worried and confused for the next fullyear i have to do as by the looks of its very complicated and hard to work out what amounts to take off, im not the briughtest person when it comes to numbers lol so any info would be great thanks

If say you earned 10000 and had 4000 expenses you. You then have your personal tax allowance which at present is 6475. So you would pay no tax. If your earnings are above 6475 after you have taken expenses off you will then pay tax.

righty hoo think i get you know lol, is that figure that you are currently allowed to earn before you have to start paying tax? does this figure change every year?

I believe for 09 to 10 and 2010 to 2011 its remaining same. But 2011 to 2012 its upping to about 7450

Yes you pay tax on anything above that figure after you have taken your expenses off.
