Applying for a variation to OFSTED reg

Hi, need some advice, I have just had my OFSTED registration visit and was advised that as I have two children under 5, one of which is 3 (4 in August) and 6 months (1 in August), then I can only have 1 extra child under 6. My problem is that I am wanting to work with a family who are desperate for childcare for their 3 year old boy (who goes to pre-school 9-12) and also their 2 year old daughter (full-time), both their 3 year old and mine will start full time school in September. Their daughter goes to Sure Start and she hates it, they are having so much trouble and to help them out I am looking after their boy for free until my registration comes through, childcare for their daughter is extortionate in comparison to what I will charge them.

To cut a long story short, im wanting to apply to OFSTED for a variation to allow me to have their 2 year old also and was wondering if anyone has been able to look after 4 children in the EYFS? I was thinking I could ask for it only for the months that it takes from my registration to September when the boys start school? I forgot to mention that there are no other childminders in my area who either have vacancies or pick up from the school I live across the road from!!

Do you think OFSTED would allow this at all??

All opinions will be greatly received xx

(sorry for rambling on)

just to clarify you would propse to have currently (if reg comes through really quickly hahahahahah)

1 under 1 (DD)
1 2 yr old (mindee)
1 3 yr old (mindee)
1 3 yr old (DS)

From September

2 x 2yr olds
1 x 3yr old
1 x 4 year old in school

yes?

KatyMac · 25/01/2011 22:01

I thought in Sept it would be
1x1yo
1x2yo
2x4yo at school

babyfatmustgo · 25/01/2011 22:02

From september it would be: -

1 x 1 year old (DS)
1 x 2 year old (mindee)3 in Nov
2 x 4 year olds (DS & Mindee) in full time school

BALD · 25/01/2011 22:03

ah x posts

KatyMac · 25/01/2011 22:04

But the whole 4 under 6 confuses me - are you in england as they normally talk about under 8's

babyfatmustgo · 25/01/2011 22:06

Sorry typo it should have been 8, new to this site please forgive any stupidity on my behalf x

OK so the 4 under 8 is likely to be a space issue

So if you had these children they would be your only mindees

Umm bad move becasue when you DD goes to F/T school in Sept you would be allowed 2 mindees under 5, your DS & your DD which would be more money than ds plus mindee plus 2 under 8's

babyfatmustgo · 25/01/2011 22:26

Yes but if I had the variation to allow me to also have their DD until September, then when september came to an end she would take the place of her brother and I would be able to take on one more under 5??

The OFSTED inspector said when my DS and minded son go to school in September i can replace them with new mindees.

I live in the same size house as a friend who is registering also and she has a 3 year old and a 6 year old and she is allowed 6 under 8 (to include her own)??

No the variation would be for those 'named' children only

The limit in numbers may be because of inexperience or a factor the inspector didn't discuss OR it could be 4 mindees under 8 plus your 2

Ring OFSTED & get it clarified

babyfatmustgo · 25/01/2011 22:46

Yeh it doesnt make sense anyway coz if im only allowed 3 under 8 then how come she said i could replace my DS and minded son in September when they go to school full time??

The first thing she did when she came was ask about my own children and then stated the number i was allowed!!
