Help! She won't stop crying!

Have started looking after siblings today, baby 10 months old, sibling 3. Baby has not stopped crying all morning no matter what I do, has not taken any breakfast from me nor bottle. Mum didn't think necessary to have settling in period but warned that baby could be a bit of trouble (a bit??Hmm

At which point do I crack & call mum to come pick her up??

It's a hard one.

I don't know if I would unless she was hysterical or ill.

She has to get used to being with you really, if she's used to being with Mum then it's obviously going to be upsetting for her to not be with her now. However if Mum has warned you that she can be a 'bit of trouble' Confused then this may be perfectly normal for this little girl.

Have you taken them on a trial basis?

Take them out for a walk/car ride? Blush probably worst advice possible but desperate times...

I think you made a mistake not insisting on a settling in period. Surely it is for your benefit as well as hers.

I would try getting out for a walk maybe.

I think you should call the mother and let her know that the baby has been crying for ages since you don't yet know what is normal for this child. Don't ask her to pick her up, leave it up to the mother, but do let her know because this might actually be unusual.

I say this because my DD's nursery once called me on that basis. My DH did go to get her, and it turned out she was quite ill. They did right to call.

So the mum already said she could be troublesome but didn't think she needed a settling-in period .... hmmm .... Hmm Has mum gone to work today? I would definitely call her to check if he would consider this normal in a new situation or if this is extreme?

gosh starting a baby without settling in is hardcore

hope the day wasn't too traumatic for you both

We both survived (hardly Wink and I have asked mum to bring her round a couple of times in the week before next Friday. Thanks all!
