Question about cleaner

We got a cleaner that comes once a week, for 3 hours. My question is how much work should she be doing? She usually puts one load of washing away, and then does kitchen or bathroom (never both on the same day). If she cleans kitchen, it is only wiping surfaces and moping/sweeping the floor (i put everything away myself and load dishwasher first thing in the morning). Never does oven, microvawe, etc. It takes her about one hour to put clothes away and two hours to clean kitchen or one bathroom. I feel that it is not enough for 30 pounds we are paying. Or do I expect too much for 3 hours per week? She is a lovely girl and I really dont want to make her any problems by calling the agency. Please tell me if it is reasonable or not.

Don't think this is the right section really however I have seen posts about cleaners before and this sounds WAY slow/lazy. Put this in a more used section like 'other subjects' and 'chat' and you'll get loads of people telling you what their cleaners so in that time. That's very little indeed for £30!!

Thank you! Will post it in chat now!

OMG
my cleaner comes for 2 hours (£20)

she thoroughly hoovers and dusts then entire house. (largish 3 bed house)
She changes ours bed linenen
She deep cleans 2 bathrooms
she cleans the kitchen (all surfaces / hob etc)
she mops the kitchen floor and bathroom floors

and always leaves the whole house immaculate.

I also have 2hrs of cleaning pw and she does much the same as nannyl's cleaner, except changing bed linen.

I prefer to do my own washing and ironing plus I always load the dishwasher before she comes.

my cleaner does 4 hrs on a wed and does the whole house, the way you decribe her doing the kitchen is what i do everyday myself, so i get my cleaner to clean frigde/cooker etc

ILikeMilk · 16/12/2010 14:16

Thanks for your answers! Dmo, I do it too, so when I asked her to clean the kitchen I thought she'll do the hob, etc. But she only does the surfaces and the floor...

I have a cleaner for 4 hours and she cleans the whole house (4beds, 3 recep, 2 bathrooms..oven, hob, low inside windows, microwave, fridge etc) and irons a few shirts.... sounds like you are being taken for a ride!

Take it from someone who has been in your situation recently, get rid of her. My cleaner was a lovely girl, and so I kept making excuses for her, giving her extra chances but in the end I realised that she was taking the piss and that it was making me feel bitter and resentful when hte whole idea of having a cleaner was to make my life easier. I wasnt brave enough to give her the real reason, I just blamed it on money worries. Actually your cleaner sounds even worse than mine...try being very clear about what you expect she should do. If that doesnt work then get rid of her. I tell you what, after my experience it makes me feel like becoming a cleaner myself, mine had the best set up and still took the piss. I know I would be so much better!!

Why don't you make a list of things for her to do and see how it goes. Maybe she doesn't know what to do so she just does the surfaces and makes it streach for three hours etc.
I do not have a cleaner but in 3 hours if I don't have children around I can clean my 5 bedroom house top to bottom (dust, hoover, mop all the bedrooms and 3 reception rooms, kitchen and deepclean 2 bathrooms).

Hi I have a cleaner every week for three hours and she does the following:

hoover 4 bedroom house (sizable rooms)
clean 2 bathrooms and a small toiler under stairs
polishes mirrors around house about 4
hoovers downstairs loung
mops all toilets and big kitchen and hallway.
cleans all kitchen worktop surface
clean microwave and hob
clean sink and other non weekly tasks like clean fridge partially or porch or wipe down radiators

it is a busy 3 hours but im spending the money and i want its worth and by the way she is not exhausted after this.

she cleans but i always tidy before she comes- she wont know were evertying goes others wise it will take ages for her to come to speed with everything and also i can afford another 2 hours!

i think your cleaner is taking advantage of you!

My cleaner comes for 3 hours a week. In that time she:

  • Vacuums the house
  • Sweeps and mops the quite large expanse of wooden floor
  • Dusts house
  • Cleans two bathrooms
  • Cleans kitchen (microwave, hob, sink, surfaces)
  • Generally tsraightens things up and tidies everything (although its left pretty tidy for her)
  • Does ironing if there;s any time left.
